Understanding Alternatives

Looking for tools that do something similar to another AI? That’s what Alternatives pages are for.

How Alternatives pages work

Every AI on Altern has its own Alternatives page. You’ll find it at:

/alternatives/[ai-name]

For example: /alternatives/chatgpt, /alternatives/claude, /alternatives/altern.

On these pages you’ll see the tools people use as alternatives to that AI. They’re ranked by leaderboard position so the strongest options usually appear first.

You can switch between two views:

• Top — the highest-ranked alternatives
• Recently added — the newest tools people have suggested for that AI

If you want to jump straight to the newest ones for a specific AI, you can also use:

/alternatives/[ai-name]/recent

The main Alternatives page

There’s also a site-wide page at alternatives.

This shows the most recent alternatives that have been added across the whole website — useful if you just want to see what’s new overall, without focusing on one specific AI.

Suggesting additions and removals

Anyone can help keep these lists accurate and useful. You can suggest a new alternative or suggest removing one that doesn’t fit. Every suggestion is reviewed by the team before anything changes.
