This policy explains what information Altern ("we", "us") collects, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Account information. When you sign in with GitHub or Google, we receive your email address, username/display name, and profile avatar from that provider. We don't receive your password.
Content you provide. Anything you submit — AI listings, alternative suggestions, list/task suggestions, saved items — is stored so the feature works.
Usage data. Like most websites, we log basic technical data (pages visited, browser type, IP address) to keep the service secure and understand how it's used.
Cookies. We use a session cookie to keep you signed in and to remember preferences like dark mode. We don't use third-party advertising trackers.
We use your information to operate your account, show your saved AIs and submissions, process paid listing payments (via PayPal), send you relevant notifications about your own submissions, and keep the service secure and reliable. We don't sell your personal information.
We share information only where necessary to run the service: with GitHub/Google for authentication, and with PayPal to process payments for paid listing tiers. We don't share your data with advertisers.
We keep account and submission data for as long as your account is active. You can ask us to delete your account and associated personal data at any time.
You can review and update your profile information from Settings, disconnect a linked sign-in provider, or request full account deletion. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights over your personal data under local law.
Altern isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.
We may update this policy as the service evolves. We'll update the "last updated" date above when we do.
