Operator used a vision-based approach to browse the web and complete multi-step tasks — booking reservations, filling forms, shopping — interacting with sites the way a human would rather than needing a dedicated API. OpenAI has since folded Operator's browsing capability into ChatGPT's broader agent mode rather than keeping it as a standalone product, consolidating its agentic features into the main ChatGPT experience instead of maintaining a separate app.
