About

Mailjet was founded in Paris in 2010, around the same time as Mailgun on the other side of the Atlantic, though the two products took different paths for most of their history before ending up under the same corporate roof. Sinch bought Mailjet in 2019 through its Pathwire subsidiary, and when Sinch also picked up Mailgun in 2021, the two became sibling products serving somewhat different audiences under one parent company.

Mailjet doesn't touch AI, and the feature it's best known for is far more mundane and, in its own way, more useful day to day: a template editor that lets more than one person edit the same email design at once, similar to how multiple people can work inside the same Google Doc together. That sounds like a small thing until you've worked somewhere a marketing person and a developer both need to touch the same transactional email template and end up emailing screenshots back and forth. Mailjet built its whole collaborative pitch around solving exactly that friction. It also keeps a genuinely free plan with a real ongoing monthly allowance rather than a time-limited trial, which has made it a steady option for small teams, especially in Europe, where it has more brand recognition than it does in the United States.
