Steel is a browser infrastructure project that gives agents a clean API for sessions, captchas, proxies and page content. You can self-host it or use the hosted service, and connect through Playwright, Puppeteer or Selenium.

It reduces the pain of keeping headless browsers alive and undetected. Session recordings help when you need to debug what the agent saw.

If you are building scrapers or web agents, running your own browser fleet is tedious work. Steel packages it into a service.
