Training data platform now nearly half-owned by Meta
Scale AI provides training data labeling and RLHF services behind many of the world's most important AI models, with customers including OpenAI, Microsoft, and the US Department of Defense. Meta invested roughly $14.3 billion for a 49% stake in Scale in 2024, and Scale's CEO Alexandr Wang left to lead Meta's new Superintelligence Labs — a deal that's reshaped how the rest of the AI industry views Scale's independence, since several of its former customers have reportedly pulled back work given Meta's now-significant ownership stake.
