Kokoro is a small open-weight text-to-speech model that sounds surprisingly natural for its size. It runs on CPUs and phones and supports several voices and languages.

Developers embed it in apps, readers and voice assistants without per-character fees. A permissive license makes commercial use simple.

It is not as expressive as top paid voices, but the price is hard to beat.
