Fauna

Fauna was a distributed, serverless document-relational database with strong consistency guarantees and native GraphQL, built for Jamstack and serverless architectures where the database is consumed entirely through an API. The company announced in 2025 that it was winding down its commercial cloud database service, a reminder of how much risk there is in building on a proprietary database-as-a-service rather than something you can self-host or migrate off easily.
