Chroma is an open-source embedding database built specifically to give LLM applications long-term memory — developers store and query vector embeddings for semantic search and retrieval-augmented generation without standing up a heavier, general-purpose database. It's become one of the default starting points for anyone building a RAG pipeline from scratch.
