About

AutoGrid is a distributed energy resource management (DERMS) and virtual power plant platform for utilities and grid operators. Its software aggregates and coordinates grid-edge devices, batteries, rooftop solar, EVs, smart thermostats, and demand response assets, so that a fleet of small distributed resources can be dispatched and forecasted like a single large power plant. The platform handles the forecasting, optimization, and real-time control needed to balance load as intermittent solar and wind generation shifts throughout the day.

The product is built for utilities, grid operators, and energy retailers that need to integrate growing numbers of customer-owned devices into grid operations, rather than for individual consumers. Typical use cases include running demand response and time-of-use programs, managing EV charging load, and using batteries and flexible loads to defer costly grid infrastructure upgrades or respond to peak demand events. AutoGrid was originally a Schneider Electric-owned business built on years of DERMS deployments with utilities worldwide, which gives it deep experience handling large, heterogeneous device fleets at grid scale.

In 2024 AutoGrid was acquired by Uplight from Schneider Electric and combined with Uplight's own customer engagement and DER software into a single platform, so AutoGrid's technology now largely operates as part of Uplight's broader offering for utilities rather than as a fully standalone brand.
