About

AgentGPT is a browser based tool for running autonomous AI agents without any local setup. You type in a goal, and the agent attempts to break it into sub-tasks, reasons through them in sequence, and can search the web to gather information as it works. It runs on top of large language models like GPT and lets you watch its task list update in real time as it plans and executes.

It was built by Reworkd and became one of the first widely used demonstrations of autonomous, goal-driven AI agents, arriving alongside early projects like Auto-GPT and BabyAGI in 2023. Where those ran from the command line, AgentGPT's appeal was making the same loop-based agent behavior accessible from a web browser with no installation or API wrangling required, which is a big part of why it spread quickly among people curious about agentic AI.

It's aimed at developers, hobbyists, and anyone wanting a hands-on look at what autonomous task execution looks like in practice, including its limits: agents can loop, drift off task, or produce shallow results on anything complex. The project is open source, so it also works as a reference implementation for people building their own agent loops rather than a finished product for serious production work.
