About

Adobe Lightroom is Adobe's photo editing and organization app, built around non-destructive RAW editing with cloud sync across desktop, mobile, and web. Over the past few years Adobe has layered a set of AI tools on top of that core workflow: AI-powered Select Subject and Select Sky masking find and isolate parts of an image in one click, Denoise uses a diffusion model to pull clean detail out of noisy high-ISO shots, and Generative Remove (built on Adobe Firefly) lets you erase people, wires, trash cans, or other distractions by brushing over them instead of manually cloning them out.

It's aimed at the same audience Lightroom always had: photographers, from hobbyists to working professionals, who shoot RAW and want a full editing and catalog system rather than a single-purpose filter app. The AI features are meant to cut down the tedious parts of that workflow, masking a sky or a person that used to take several minutes of manual selection now takes seconds, and Denoise gives shooters more usable dynamic range in dim or fast-moving situations like weddings, events, and wildlife. Because these tools sit inside the existing Lightroom edit panel, results stay as adjustable, non-destructive masks and sliders rather than a flattened, one-way AI output.

What sets it apart from AI-first photo editors is that Lightroom didn't start as an AI tool and bolt on a workflow around it; it started as the workflow and added AI on top. That means color grading, RAW profiles, catalog management, and cross-device sync were already mature before any of the masking or generative tools arrived, so professionals get AI convenience without giving up the precise, layered control and archival organization Lightroom has been built on for over a decade.
