Conversational AI programming — transform natural language prompts into functional code.

Salesforce CodeGen is a family of open‑source large‑language models (LLMs) for program synthesis. Developed by Salesforce AI Research, CodeGen can convert English prompts into working code across multiple programming languages, offering a conversational AI programming experience. It offers multiple model sizes (350M, 1B/2B, 6B/7B, 16B parameters), including both multilingual and Python‑specific variants, and is competitive with models like OpenAI Codex on benchmark coding tasks. Since its initial CodeGen 1.0 release in early 2022, successive updates—CodeGen 2.0 in early 2023 and CodeGen 2.5 in mid‑2023—have improved code quality, speed, and usability, while reducing latency and cost. Internally, CodeGen 2.5 powers Salesforce’s Einstein for Developers (fine‑tuned for Apex) and reportedly saves about 90 minutes per developer per day. With over 600,000 monthly downloads, it supports both research and practical applications.
