About

Udio is a text-to-music generator that produces studio-quality songs from prompts, with particular strength in handling coherent lyrics, distinct genres, and the ability to extend or re-work individual sections of an existing track rather than only generating one-shot clips. Users type a style, mood, or lyrical idea and get back a full song with vocals and instrumentation, then can regenerate verses, choruses, or transitions to refine the result, which makes it popular with hobbyists, songwriters sketching ideas, and creators who need quick soundtracks for video or social content.

Udio was sued in 2024 by Universal, Warner, and Sony Music alongside Suno over the unlicensed training data behind its models. That picture has since shifted: Universal Music Group settled with Udio in October 2025 and Warner Music Group followed shortly after, with both labels agreeing to license their catalogs to Udio and jointly build a new subscription-based AI music platform slated for 2026 that runs on authorized recordings. Sony has not settled and remains in litigation, so part of the case is still working through the courts even as Udio moves toward a licensed, label-backed product.
